Updates:2022-04-20 Popularity3256
Introduction
Jiuliao River Ecological Park is located in Lunpi Village, Datong Township. During the Japanese occupation, Taiwan had a booming industry producing camphor, so in Yilan there were several camphor tree canopies built and numbered. Jiuliao passes by the ninth canopy, hence its name Jiu (the ninth) liao (canopy).

In the early days, this area belonged to the Atayal aborigines. Legend has it that when the tribe’s hunters first heard the river splashing onto rocks, it made a “ga-ba” sound, and so became known as the Gaba River as well.

Because of environmental protection, Jiuliao River Ecological Park is unpolluted, and the River’s water is clear and abundant.
