Introduction
The Qilan Forest Recreation Area is located at Tuchang Village, Datong Township, about 38 km from downtown Yilan. It is a must-pass-by when one is travelling towards Taipingshan or Lishan. In the Area, there is the villa of the former president Chiang Kai-shek, trees and flowers viewing area, the Forest Shower Trail, and other facilities. The European-style Qilan Resort and lodges in the woods provide tourists with comfortable accommodation.

In addition to the luxuriant trees and flowers in the Qilan Forest Recreation Area, along the pathway there are Japanese apricots, plums, apricots, peaches and Taiwan cherries planted, which bloom in different seasons; they paint the area in diverse colors, adding a romantic atmosphere. The cherry blossoms in the spring are especially a tourist magnet.
The Giant Tree Park in the Qilan Forest Recreation Area is the largest giant tree cluster in Taiwan, which is really worth a visit. Each tree in the Park is more than 400 years old, and named after ancient Chinese celebrities according to their respective age. Among these 51 giant trees, except for the four trees: Cheng Cheng-kung, Zhu Xi, Guan Yu and Yue Fei, are Taiwan yellow cypresses, while all the others are Taiwan red cypresses.

Besides admiring the beauty of flowers and the Giant Tree Park, do not forget to taste the local specialty, pom pom mushroom, to make it a rewarding trip to the Qilan Forest Recreation Area.
