Seven-Star Peak

The mountain track toward Seven-Star Peak is 4750 meters in length. The highest point is 230 meters in altitude. The entrance of the path is situated right next to Su'ao Cold Springs. The name of Seven-Star Peak can date back to at least one century ago. Along the path, the hikers can see a bird's eye view of the capes around Su'ao Bay, the landscape of Lanyang Plain and Wuwei Port and Guishan Island that sits on the vast Pacific Ocean. Sometimes people can even see the Cold Springs Park and the streets in downtown Su'ao.

my 3rd visit; what an exercise

    4 2016-12

I had been there for 3 times and I could not even finish it for the very first time. The view is fantastic and the higher I climbed the better/ more amazing the view would be. The best season to visit (for me), I'd say it's late Autumn or when the temperature drops to 22 ~ 24 degree Celsius with little breeze. The stairs were very slippery, hikers must be careful when stepping down. In Chinese, Chi-Shing-Ling (seven stars hills, literally) means there are 7 stops along way to the mountain-top. The first star (stop) is to view cold spring, the second star (stop) is to view cove (terrain), the third star (stop) is to view mountains, the fourth star is to view trees, the fifth star is to view harbors, the sixth star is to view ocean (Pacific Ocean), and the seventh star is to view plain (Lanyang Plain; the flat land of Yilan County). I strongly recommend tourists to visit this place if guiding is provided. It may be boring or tiring for tourists who rarely hike or walk to finish the whole course. However, with site interpretation (guiding), it will be fun and less stressful.

    A Pleasant Hike

    5 2014-04

Qixingling is located in the neighborhood of Suao Train Station. If you depart from Taipei, I suggest that you take #1879 of Kingbus from Yuanshan Station or Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station of the Taipei Metro and arrive in Suao in just over an hour. Then follow the sign to Suao Coldspring, right next to which is the entrance of the trail that leads to Qixingling. The name, "Qixingling," literally means the "Hill of Seven Stars." Along the trail there are seven observation decks, the first six of which overlook different kinds of scenery, including “First-Star: Spring View,” “Second-Star: Cove View,” “Third-Star: Mountain View,” “Fourth-Star Tree View,” “Fifth-Star: Harbor View,” and “Sixth-Star: Sea View.” I suggest that you move on to reach the Xingling Park, where the seventh-star view of the Lanyang Plain and the coastal line is the most beautiful during the entire hike. Finally, you can either continue with the rest of the trail and finish at the other entrance or return to where you started. The trail is a pleasant hike (about an hour to reach the Xingling Park). Along the neat and clean steps there are sweet olive (osmanthus fragrans) trees and plants and birds of a variety abound. When you visit Suao, be sure to make some time to Qixingling and take in the seven star-class views!
